Campus Renewal Plan
A major campus renewal plan is under way at St. John's Mercy
Medical Center. Plans call for new construction and other campus
changes that will improve our healing environment, enhance the
experience for our patients and visitors, and enable greater
efficiency and effectiveness in our delivery of care. St. John's Mercy
Medical Center is investing $500 million in new and redesigned
facilities and patient services, primarily to its Creve Coeur campus.

The focus of the
renewal plan is on patient care, comfort and convenience. Designs
will enhance the healing environment and overall experience for patients,
while allowing the integration of new models of both inpatient and
outpatient care. The number of private rooms for patients will increase
significantly, from current 40 percent private/60 percent semi-private
to 85 percent private/15 percent semi-private, with obstetric rooms
being 100 percent private. Approximately $50 million of the $500
million investment will go to provide regional ambulatory services.
New
Patient Tower & Entrance
The Medical Center
has begun the next phase of the campus renewal plan
with
the construction of a new $150 million, 252 bed patient tower. The
315,000-square foot patient bed tower will be located on the space
formerly occupied by the Emergency Department and roughly half of
the outdoor plaza. The building will feature all private rooms and
because other rooms on the campus also will be converted to private
rooms, there will not be a change in the number of 979 licensed beds.
Once the all-private tower is complete, the Medical Center will have
roughly 88 percent private rooms. For patients, the benefits of a
private room are many, including faster healing times,
increased personal privacy, lower noise levels and better infection
control. The tower will house several pediatric services and there
are several options being considered for retail services on the lower
levels. |
